Biography
Charlene obtained her first degree in biomedical science at Manchester University in 2006. She completed her medical training in 2011 at Manchester University (studied at Keele University). Her foundation and core training were done in South Thames and Kent, Surrey and Sussex deaneries. She was awarded a national training number in general surgery in 2015 in the East of England deanery. She completed three years of higher surgical training before taking up her research post at St Mark’s Hospital in October 2018.
Charlene is the rectal vaginal fistula (RVF) research fellow undertaking her PhD in the Robin Phillips Fistula Research Unit at St Mark’s Hospital. Her work centers around improving our understanding of RVF, improving the management and outcomes associated with this difficult problem and most of all understanding the qualitative aspects of RVF. Her supervisors include Mr Phil Tozer, Professor Ailsa Hart and Miss Carolynne Vaizey.
