About ACPGBI

Emergency General Surgery Subcommittee

The Emergency General Surgery subcommittee are interested in exploring what defines quality in EGS care, specifically as it pertains to colorectal surgery. We are undertaking a review of what key performance indicators have been used in other regions and what may be proposed as future KPIs in the future. We are also undertaking more educational activities in the forms of webinars and seminar teaching sessions. This will be for Pre-FRCS trainees, as well as practicing clinicians. We are also exploring the training requirements, and deficits for Colorectal EGS.

Emergency surgery and its provision within Trusts is of paramount importance. The purpose of the Emergency Surgery Subgroup (ESS) is to represent ACPGBI members ensuring that emergency colorectal surgery is performed to the highest standard and that their contribution to the generality of emergency surgery is similarly recognised. This group mirrors IBD, peritoneal malignancy and endoscopy subgroups that similarly report through MCC.
