Biography
Ms Kim Gorissen is a Consultant in Emergency & Colorectal Surgery at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
She is of Dutch nationality and studied Medicine at Maastricht University in The Netherlands; 2000 Ba(Cum Laude) and 2005 masters (Cum Laude). She completed surgical training in Maastricht where she qualified in general, gastrointestinal and oncologic surgery in 2011.
During her training she developed a strong affection for colorectal surgery and more specifically for pelvic floor surgery. After fellowships in Oxford and the Royal Brisbane Hospital in Australia (CCSANZ official fellowship) she returned to Oxford as a Consultant Surgeon to continue working in this field.
She is one of the founders of the current Surgical Emergency Unit at OUH and spends most of her time delivering (colorectal) emergency care. Her elective work mainly consist of pelvic floor surgery. She is clinical lead and (inter) national proctor for Sacral Nerve Stimulation.
She has published several scientific papers and book chapters on pelvic floor problems, colorectal cancer and recovery after surgery, and frequently presents her research at international conferences, consensus meetings and master classes.
She is a passionate, award winning teacher, and among other roles is part of the Oxford University Surgical Student Teaching Committee and resident doctor training program.
As Chair of the Scientific Program Committee she greatly enjoys being part of the Council of the National Pelvic Floor Society.
