The ACPGBI now has a Patient Liaison Group (PLG) to provide a patient and public voice to the Association.

It acts as a resource for the Association to deliver a professional service to meet the current and future needs of colorectal patients, and continuously improve patient care. It seeks to inform patients and the public about colorectal issues. The PLG Chair attends Council meetings where areas of patient concern can be raised and the PLG responds to requests to provide views, comments and written commentaries for use in research and other documents both for the membership and for an external professional and public audience. PLG members are lay people; the majority of the 4 members have considerable experience both as patients with colorectal disease and in patient support groups. They are all volunteers and private individuals who can offer an honest appraisal and independent view to the Association. They adhere strictly to Terms of Reference with a Confidentiality Clause. Examples of the work of the PLG in representing patients includes ACPGBI committees, NBOCA (the National Bowel Cancer Audit), Clinical Reference Group for Specialised Colorectal services, IBD sub-group and Clinical Advisory Group and attendance at other meetings by invitation both internal and external to the ACPGBI.
