The Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI) invites applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief of Colorectal Disease.
Colorectal Disease is a journal devoted to the clinical problems that are directly relevant to adult patients with intestinal (small bowel, colon, rectum & anus) diseases, and the multidisciplinary (surgical, medical, nursing, pathology, radiology, oncology) clinical teams that care for them. Colorectal Disease publishes original research & reviews regarding the epidemiology & aetiology, diagnosis, classification, management, prognosis and long-term sequelae of lower gastrointestinal tract diseases.
It also publishes research relating to aspects of healthcare processes that directly impact patients with lower gastrointestinal diseases You can find the full Aims and Scope here.
- It is the responsibility of the Editor-In-Chief to:
- Provide overall leadership and direction for journal content
- Work closely with the Publisher to oversee the effective timely peer review and publication of manuscripts
- Participate in the screening of submissions and have responsibility for peer review decisions.
- Oversee correspondence with authors, editors and reviewers.
- Oversee editing and production of the journal in collaboration with the Publisher.
- Be committed to journal development and editorial standards and will be responsible for implementing and managing core strategic initiatives alongside the Publisher and ACPGBI Executive.
Applicants should have a knowledge and understanding of the international colorectal community and should have the following desired attributes:
- Broad and extensive knowledge of the field
- A strong personal record of research achievement including expertise in research design, statistics and ethics.
- Experience in journal publishing and editorial decision making
- Strong leadership with excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A high level of efficiency and time management.
- A flexible and collaborative style working in partnership with the Publishing team, Editorial Board and authors.

There is an annual honorarium for the role for personal support and reimbursement of travel expenses to attend meetings that are relevant to the Editor role and success of the journal.
