Nearly 5,500 patients have an anterior resection each year in the UK (NBOCAP, 2011) – half of whom will experience problematic bowel symptoms for several months after treatment, sometimes longer. Following completion of rectal cancer treatment, all patients’ bowel function should be assessed, as many require will specialist intervention.
This study day explains the causes of bowel dysfunction after rectal cancer treatment, how to conduct a comprehensive assessment and introduces a range of interventions that can help in improving bowel function and thus also quality of life.
Target audience: Nurses who have a specialist role which involves the support of patients following rectal cancer treatment and are keen to improve their knowledge and skills when managing altered bowel function.
Learning Style: Interactive presentations
