2020 will be the eighth year of the Clinical Outcomes Publication, which started as a publication of outcomes for individual bowel cancer surgeons. Since it started the focus has moved towards trust measures and new measures added each year are at trust level. The 90-day mortality results are for patients whose bowel cancer was diagnosed between April 2014 and March 2019, and then removed by surgery at a planned (not emergency) operation. The other measures are for patients whose bowel cancer was diagnosed between April 2018 and March 2019. Results are provided by the National Bowel Cancer Audit. The Clinical Outcomes Publication initiative started in December 2012, when NHS England asked surgical specialties to report outcomes for individual consultants. In response to this, in September 2013, the ACPGBI published the outcomes of individual surgeons operating on patients with bowel cancer in England.
