Biography
Romi Navaratnam trained at Nottingham, Cambridge, London and Sri Lanka before being appointed Consultant Laparoscopic Colorectal surgeon at the North Middlesex University Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Royal Free Medical School in 2002.
He is a founding consultant of the gastrointestinal (GI) units at The Wellington Hospital and the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth in London. Both institutions are recognised as national and international centres of excellence.
His specialist interests include the investigation and management of common and complex gastrointestinal problems, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), rectal bleeding, haemorrhoids, anal fissures, altered bowel habit, complex anal fistulae and bowel cancer.
He is passionate about endoscopy, colonoscopy and laparoscopic (keyhole) minimally invasive surgery, for benign disease eg Crohns, diverticular disease and bowel cancer.
He has a significant interest in the management of the complex clinical dilemma. He has provided second opinions both at a local and international level.
His work over the past 17 years as a Consultant surgeon has been associated with very positive outcomes.
