Biography
I am a colorectal surgeon with RCOG training in Gynaecological Oncology. I am a London Graduate (UCL) and undertook most of my surgical training in North East Thames. I was awarded a higher degree from the University of London for research undertaken at the Molecular Endocrinology Department, St Bartholomew's Hospital (breast and colon cancer). I undertook a 1 year subspecialty fellowship in Glasgow (Ethicon travelling fellowship 2011) focussing on laparoscopic rectal cancer and pelvic floor surgery. I have been a consultant colorectal surgeon at North Bristol NHS Trust for 10 years.
Currently I am a member of the ACPGBI Proctology Committee and an advocate of ambulatory proctology. I am a core member of the Bristol Pelvic Floor MDT with 10 years experience as a consultant in pelvic floor and functional bowel disorders. Currently I spend 20% of my time in gynaecology - advanced endometriosis surgery and management of obstetric patients with perineal injuries.
I am research active and have published 80 peer reviewed publications (RG score 34, H-index 20) and a founder member of OPSOC (Older Persons Surgical Outcomes Collaborative)- multi-disciplinary research group focussed on improving the outcomes of surgery in the frail, older person. I am passionate about colonoscopy & advanced polypectomy and have trained 4 nurse endoscopists. Recently I have completed colon capsule training and am excited to be part of the National colon capsule trial at Southmead.
