The Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI) recognises and values its role in education and training.
The ACPGBI listens to, responds to and, supports its trainee members through the Dukes' Club.
Training in the NHS in 2024 is a finite resource and under immense pressure due to the unprecedented demand created by the current waiting lists across all parts of the UK and Ireland.
However, it is imperative that training of future consultant colorectal surgeons is protected and indeed dramatically improved.
There is an urgent need to continue to drive up training opportunities in colonoscopy for colorectal trainees, in conjunction with endoscopy training academies to achieve accreditation prior to appointment as a consultant.
It is vital that the upskilling of any part of the important non-medical workforce does not jeopardise those training opportunities.
The ACPGBI and the Dukes' Club are happy to work with all stakeholder organisations to help optimise training pathways and ensure a skilled and competent workforce for the future.
Jared Torkington – President of ACPGBI
Lillian Reza – President The Duke’s Club
Katie Cross – Chair, ACPGBI Colonoscopy Subcommittee
Katie Siggens – The Duke’s Club Endoscopy Representative
