Biography
David Jayne is Professor of Surgery at the University of Leeds and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He trained in the UK with overseas fellowships at The Royal Perth Hospital, Australia, and Singapore General Hospital, Singapore. His clinical interests include laparoscopic and robotic surgery, with a focus on rectal cancer. His research interests include the development, application, and evaluation of new surgical technologies. He is Chief Investigator for several UK NIHR portfolio clinical trials, including ROLARR (robotic versus laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer), FIAT (fistula plug versus surgeons preference for fistula-in-ano), GLiSten (next generation fluorescence lymph node staging for stratified colon cancer surgery), and Fenix (Magnetic anal sphincter versus sacral nerve modulation for adult faecal incontinence). He holds an NIHR Research Professorship to develop novel technologies for surgical application. He is Clinical Director for an NIHR Healthcare Technologies Cooperative, a national network to generate novel solutions to unmet clinical need in colorectal disease.
